The Republic of Korea is a divided country and a ceasefire country. For thisreason, Article 39 of our Constitution states that all citizens have the duty of national
defense as prescribed by law and that no one shall be subjected to disadvantageous
treatment due to the performance of military service obligations. However, whether
education on military human rights is being carried out realistically and the
appropriateness of military human rights education textbooks and lecture materials are
also subject to controversy. In the case of human rights education, 24.7% of soldiers
responded that they had no experience completing human rights education within the
past year, while 17.2% of female soldiers and 7.8% of executives (male soldiers)
responded that they had no experience of completing human rights education. In
addition, it has been reported in the media that there is a distorted awareness of human
rights in the expressions and content contained in the Armed Forces human rights
education textbook and that this must be corrected, and it has been confirmed that the
effect on human rights education is not much. Accordingly, this study examined the
overall content of military human rights education and presented problems and
improvement measures.
