Grey zone conflict, Drone strategy, Maritime security, Response doctrine, Non-lethal countermeasures초록
This study analyzes how drones are strategically utilized in grey zone conflicts where the boundaries between traditional war and peace are ambiguous, and how response doctrines of various countries are evolving. Focusing on maritime and border regions including the South China Sea, East China Sea, Taiwan Strait, and Red Sea, it comparatively examines the drone operation strategies and response approaches of major actors such as China, the United States, Japan, South Korea, and Turkey. The findings confirm that drones, due to their unique characteristics, are being employed as effective means to implement key elements of grey zone strategies including ambiguity, deniability, and gradualism. Moreover, effective responses to drone threats involve various challenges including attribution problems, escalation dilemmas, and legal constraints. To overcome these challenges, integrated surveillance systems, non-lethal option development, rules of engagement refinement, and legal framework strengthening are necessary. This research proposes directions for doctrine development to effectively respond to grey zone strategies utilizing drones in the changing security environment.참고문헌 (0)
